I think, the crux of my problems with ideas is that I really don’t like the idea that people (characters) can be inherently bad (or good, for that matter). I find writing about people who hate each other hard.
People aren’t simply good or bad, and relationships are almost always more complicated then a short film can ever depict without becoming cheesy or overly stereotypical.
So how can one use a stereotype, and build on it to create an engaging character?
How do we balance the quirkiness with the stereotype/archetype?
… I don’t have the answer yet, but it’s something I’m contemplating…
